First Thoughts: Zach Braff's "Wish I Was Here"
After many months of waiting, I just finished watching Wish I Was Here, Zach Braff’s spiritual successor to Garden State, and it was totally worth it.
One might chalk this movie up as an example of just the latest entry in the category of super-successful Kickstarter projects which owe more to the star power of their patron celebrity than its inherent artistic value.
And you’d be wrong. Mr. Braff’s work is thoughtful, artistic, and emotionally stunning. If turning to his fans for funding in order to evade the ordeal of top-down artistic management from the usual studio suspects, then I’m all for it.
